German Toast Hawaii is a classic open-faced sandwich made with buttered toast, savory ham, sweet pineapple, and melted cheese. This quick and easy comfort food comes together in just 15 minutes using an air fryer or oven.
Lightly toast the 4 slices of bread until they are just firm and beginning to crisp, but not browned. Spread butter evenly over one side of each slice.
Place the buttered bread slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Top each slice with 2 slices of ham, 1 pineapple ring, and 1 slice of cheese. If the cheese is thin or lightweight, secure the corners with toothpicks so the air fryer fan doesn’t blow it off.
Air fry at 375°F for 4 to 6 minutes. Check after 4 minutes. The Toast Hawaii is ready when the cheese is completely melted and bubbly and the edges are beginning to turn golden. Continue cooking another minute or two if needed, watching closely so the bread doesn’t get too dark.
Carefully remove the Toast Hawaii from the air fryer when the cheese is nice and bubbly. Remove any toothpicks before serving. Serve immediately while the cheese is hot and melty and the toast is still crisp.
