Soft, fluffy, and better than store-bought, this homemade sandwich bread is simple to make and perfect for everyday meals.
There’s something magical about the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through your kitchen. It evokes feelings of warmth, comfort, and a sense of accomplishment. Homemade sandwich bread isn’t just better than store-bought; it’s fresher, tastier, and surprisingly easy to make. With just a handful of pantry staples and a bit of time, you can create a loaf that’s soft, fluffy, and perfect for all your sandwich needs.
Why Homemade Sandwich Bread is Better
Store-bought bread might seem convenient, but it comes with compromises. Most packaged breads are laden with preservatives, additives, and sugars to extend shelf life and enhance flavor artificially. These ingredients can strip the bread of its natural goodness and nutritional value.
On the other hand, homemade bread allows you full control over what goes into it. You can choose wholesome ingredients, adjust the sweetness, and even tweak the recipe to suit your preferences. Plus, you’ll avoid unnecessary additives, resulting in a healthier, more natural loaf.
How Easy Is It to Make?
Many people shy away from baking bread, thinking it’s time-consuming or requires special skills. But this recipe is here to bust those myths! Making sandwich bread at home is not only straightforward but also incredibly rewarding.
All you need are a few simple ingredients: flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and water or milk. The process involves mixing, kneading (or letting your stand mixer do the work), a couple of short rises, and baking. In about 2-3 hours, you’ll have a perfect loaf of bread. Most of that time is hands-off, so you can go about your day while the dough does its thing.
Benefits of Homemade Bread
- Healthier Ingredients: No artificial preservatives, high-fructose corn syrup, or hidden chemicals.
- Better Taste: Freshly baked bread has a flavor that store-bought can’t compete with. It’s rich, slightly sweet, and wonderfully soft.
- Customizable: Add seeds, herbs, or whole grains to suit your taste. You can even adjust the texture or make it gluten-free if needed.
- Cost-Effective: A homemade loaf costs pennies compared to high-quality store-bought bread.
- Less Waste: With smaller batches, you can bake as needed and freeze extras to avoid wasting bread.
-
Add the water, the sugar and the yeast in a mixing bowl. Stir and let sit for about 5 minutes.
-
Add all the rest of the ingredients into the bowl and knead it for at least 5-7 minutes. You will see that the dough is very smooth. Cover with a dish towel and let sit in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size.
-
Take it out of the bowl and form it into a log. Spray the bread pan with butter spray and set the log into it. Cover with dish towel again and let sit for another 30 minutes so it can grow.
Pre-Heat oven to 350°F.
-
Once the loaf is nice and big, bake in oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
-
Take it out and let rest in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then take it out of pan and let cool down on cooling rack.
-
If you can't wait, eat it while still warm with butter and jam! Enjoy!
