Let’s get ready for breakfast!
What type of bread is best?
The top 3 recommended kinds of bread for Blueberry French Toast Casserole are Brioche, French Baguette, and Challah. Most people seem to prefer Brioche. It’s buttery with a hint of sweetness and has lots of eggs in the dough — all the things you want in a french toast casserole.
But I used regular sandwich bread because I wanted this recipe to be as easy and hassle-free as possible with ingredients you likely have on hand. If you have leftover sandwich bread that’s stale, this is a great way to use up the extra crispy pieces that no one wants. And It absorbs the cream cheese mixture even better.
Blueberry Fench Toast Casserole FAQs
Why is my casserole soggy?
Your casserole is probably too wet which means that you had too much of the egg mixture. Add in extra pieces of cubed sandwich bread or toast your bread slices before cutting them into cubes. Both of these options help absorb more of the egg and cream cheese.
What goes well with Blueberry French Toast Casserole?
You can eat Blueberry French Toast Casserole by itself or complement it with sides and toppings. It depends on how hungry you are and how much work you feel like doing. Simply top your casserole with maple syrup, honey, or powdered sugar. Or serve it with fruit, breakfast meats (like bacon or sausage), eggs, or smoked salmon for a fancy-style brunch at home.
Can Blueberry French Toast be reheated?
If you have some left, yes! Pop a slice into the microwave, cover it lightly with a paper towel, and heat it for 45 seconds to a minute. Or cover your casserole with foil and bake it for 30 minutes at 350° F. It actually tastes even better reheated, after the blueberries and cream cheese have more time to marinate together.
