There’s something undeniably comforting about freshly baked bread. Now imagine that same warm, fluffy goodness transformed into a stunning centerpiece: the bread roll wheel. Not only is it visually appealing, but it’s also practical, delicious, and endlessly customizable. Whether you’re hosting a family dinner, a festive gathering, or a casual brunch, the bread roll wheel is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

What is a Bread Roll Wheel?

A bread roll wheel is an arrangement of small rolls baked together in a circular pattern, creating a pull-apart masterpiece. The individual rolls are placed close enough to touch and fuse during baking, which makes them easy to tear apart when served. This design makes it perfect for sharing, with minimal mess and maximum fun.

  • Shape: Circular, resembling a wheel.
  • Usage: Often served at gatherings, perfect for sharing, and works well as a centerpiece for meals or parties.
  • Variations: Bread roll wheels can be sweet (cinnamon or fruit-filled) or savory (cheese, garlic, or herb-infused).

Why It’s Perfect for Parties

The bread roll wheel is more than just a pretty face. It’s practical for gatherings because it’s easy to serve, requires no slicing, and can be enjoyed by everyone. You can serve it as:

  • A centerpiece for a buffet.
  • A savory accompaniment to soups, stews, or salads.
  • A sweet dessert bread wheel with cinnamon or fruit fillings.
  • A DIY sandwich bar by offering assorted spreads, meats, and cheeses alongside the wheel.

Its versatility makes it suitable for any meal or occasion.

Customizing Your Bread Roll Wheel

The beauty of a bread roll wheel is in its flexibility. You can adapt it to suit any theme, preference, or dietary need.

Flavors and Additions

  • Savory Options: Herb-infused dough, garlic butter glaze, or cheese-filled rolls.
  • Sweet Options: Cinnamon sugar dusting, fruit preserves, or chocolate chips in the dough.

Toppings for the Rolls
Add variety to your bread roll wheel by topping individual rolls differently. Ideas include:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Poppy seeds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese

Each topping can indicate a different flavor or filling, making it fun for guests to explore.

Storage and Freezing Tips

If you’re planning ahead or have leftovers (though that’s rare with this crowd-pleaser!), proper storage is key.

  • Storing: Wrap the bread roll wheel tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. It will stay fresh at room temperature for up to two days.
  • Freezing: Bread roll wheels freeze beautifully. Place the fully cooled wheel in an airtight freezer bag or wrap it well in plastic and foil. It can be frozen for up to three months. To reheat, let it thaw overnight in the fridge and then warm in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.

Description

This Bread Roll Wheel is a stunning and delicious addition to any gathering. Each soft roll can be topped with seeds or herbs for a unique twist. Perfect for dipping, sharing, or pairing with your favorite spreads!

Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 cup of hot water (not boiling)
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Topping
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp water
  • variety of seeds for topping
Instructions
  1. Pour the flour into a mixing bowl and make a small well in the middle for the yeast. Sprinkle in the yeast and a little bit of warm water. Mix the yeast with the water and a little bit of flour and let the yeast develop for a couple of minutes.

  2. Once the yeast starts bubbling add salt, sugar, vegetable oil and the rest of the warm water to it and mix ingredients with a dough hook for about 5 - 7 minutes until dough is smooth.

  3. Form dough into a ball and let it rise until double in size. It will take about 30 - 40 minutes, if sitting in a warm spot. Make sure you cover with a tea towel or some clear wrap.

  4. Take dough out of bowl and start cutting it into smaller parts approximately 2 oz each. Use a scale. Should yield about 14 pieces.

  5. Roll them all into little balls. Prepare a small bowl with egg yolk and water.
Take each ball and brush it with egg wash. Then press it into the seeds of your choice. Arrange the buns in a round form.

  6. When arranging the buns make sure you switch it up so it looks good.
Cover with a towel again and let rise for another 20 - 30 minutes.
    Pre-heat oven to 425°F.

  7. Once the rolls are doubled in size, bake them for 30 minutes.

  8. Take them out of the oven and wait for about 5-10 minutes and slide them out of the frame.
    Let them cool down completely.

  9. Use them as a centerpiece and let everyone stuff them with whatever they have in mind.
    Enjoy!
